RedBag for Emergency Management Services

I have worked for over 10 years training Denver metro area first responders how to respond to active threat incidents based on national best practices. I am also our department’s hazardous materials response coordinator. Most importantly though, I am the father of two boys that attend school in the Cherry Creek School District and the husband of a teacher at Eaglecrest High School. This subject is very near and dear to my heart both professionally and personally.

As a firefighter with South Metro Fire Rescue, we respond to active threat incidents for schools in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Jefferson counties.  Our primary responsibilities during these incidents are to take care of and evacuate the injured as quickly and efficiently as possible.

RedBag assists us with this mission in two very important ways. 

First having emergency supplies in the classroom buys us time, allowing teachers and students to take care of each other until we are able reach them.  Having a tourniquet or other stop the bleed materials in the room gives anyone in this terrible situation the tools and power to take action and potentially safe a life.

Second the emergency chat feature in RedBagRadio, combined with imbedded school building maps lets us identify exactly where the injured are so we can reach them more quickly.  Time is everything and having actionable information is key in these life or death situations.  Knowing where to send teams based on real time information SAVES LIVES.

The Cherry Creek School District has learned from atrocities around the nation and has taken the step to place these Red Bags in ALL of their classrooms to aid in saving lives when minutes matter. This is truly a cutting-edge approach to this epidemic problem facing our nation.
